Have you ever looked back over your life and realized that something you thought was a detour was actually preparation?
I have.
The older I get, the more I can see God's fingerprints all over my life. At the time, I didn't always understand why certain doors opened or closed. I didn't know why I was learning certain skills or meeting certain people. Looking back now, I realize God was preparing me for things I couldn't even imagine.
When I was in college, I was only twenty-one hours away from sitting for the CPA exam, carrying a 4.0 GPA. If you had asked me then what my future would look like, I certainly wouldn't have said I'd spend my life leading a nonprofit Montessori school.
Yet today, I use those accounting skills almost every day.
Then there was my Fine Arts degree. At one time, I wondered how that would ever fit into my future. Today, I use it every time I create marketing materials, design a classroom, evaluate a logo, or think about how an environment makes people feel.
Then came my master's degree in education... Montessori training... fundraising... leadership... writing... speaking... and countless experiences I couldn't explain at the time.
None of those were wasted.
God wasn't changing my direction.
He was filling my toolbox.
Robin Sharma reminds us that greatness is built through continual growth. I would add that God often uses experiences we don't yet understand to prepare us for a purpose we can't yet see.
Why Preparation Matters
Not every season makes sense while you're living it.
Sometimes we become frustrated because we can't see where we're headed. We wonder if we're on the right path or if we've somehow taken a wrong turn.
But life often makes much more sense looking through the windshield in reverse than it does looking through the windshield ahead.
Every experience teaches us something.
Even the difficult seasons have value.
The jobs that stretched us.
The disappointments that humbled us.
The people who challenged us.
The dreams that changed.
Every one of those experiences leaves us with something we can use later.
God wastes nothing.
One of the greatest comforts in my life has been realizing that God doesn't waste our experiences. He has a way of weaving together things that seem completely unrelated into something beautiful.
Sometimes He prepares us for years before He reveals the reason.

A Lesson I've Learned
One thing life has taught me is that preparation usually doesn't feel exciting while it's happening.
It feels like work.
It feels like waiting.
It feels like wondering if you're on the right path.
But then one day, something happens, and you realize that everything you've learned—the successes, the disappointments, the education, the people you've met, even the struggles—have all been preparing you for that moment.
That's when you look back and smile.
Not because the journey was easy...
But because you can finally see that God was leading you all along.
Final Thought
If you're walking through a season that doesn't make sense right now, don't lose heart.
Keep learning.
Keep growing.
Keep trusting.
One day you'll look back and realize that what felt like a delay was actually preparation... and what felt like an ordinary season was quietly becoming one of the most important chapters of your life.
