Free five-week course will help area residents prepare for the U.S. naturalization process and exam
HUNTSVILLE, Texas — The Center for Law, Engagement, and Politics (LEAP) at Sam Houston State University and the Huntsville Public Library will host “Citizenship Classes: An Information Meeting” from 6-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, at the Walker Education Center, 1402 19th Street. The meeting will provide information about the LEAP Center/Huntsville Public Library’s upcoming free, five-week Citizenship Preparatory Course designed to help area residents learn about the U.S. naturalization process and prepare for the naturalization exam.
The LEAP Center and Huntsville Public Library have offered the Citizenship Preparatory Course since 2008, providing local residents with free instruction and assistance as they pursue U.S. citizenship.
This year’s course will meet on five consecutive Tuesdays—September 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29—from 6:00-8:30pm, and the course is offered at no cost to participants.
At theAugust 18 information meeting, prospective participants can learn more about the course, ask questions about the naturalization process, and meet instructors Professor Mike Yawn and Nataly Elizondo, along with the tutors and volunteers who will assist with the program.
Yawn and Elizondo will provide an overview of the naturalization process and discuss the material that will be covered during the September classes. The preparatory course will offer structured instruction and support focused on helping participants become more familiar with the information and process involved in becoming a U.S. citizen.
The information meeting is open to the public, and snacks and refreshments will be served.
