Center for Community Engagement coordinator recognized for service and campus impact

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Sam Houston State University staff member Sarah Burchett has been named a recipient of the 2026 Academic Affairs Staff Spirit Award, recognizing her work in community engagement and campus partnerships.

Burchett serves as partnerships and communications coordinator for the university’s Center for Community Engagement, with an office located in CHSS 262. In her role, she works to connect students, faculty and community partners through outreach, communication and program support.

According to the center, Burchett plays a key role in building relationships across campus and throughout the community. Her work includes supporting Academic Community Engagement courses, expanding partnerships and mentoring student workers as they develop professional skills and confidence.

She also contributes to the center’s communications efforts by producing photos, videos and outreach materials that highlight programs and initiatives, helping increase visibility for community engagement efforts at SHSU.

University staff said her daily work brings creativity, encouragement and a strong commitment to service, contributing to the center’s mission of connecting students with meaningful opportunities.
