Obituary

Thomas Worth Davis, Jr. (“Worth”) December 26th, 1940 to March 22nd, 2026 Thomas Worth Davis, Jr., known to all who loved him simply as Worth, passed away leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and genuine connection with others. Born on December 26, 1940, in Beeville, Texas, Worth was the son of Thomas Worth Davis and Maurine Guthrie Davis. Worth was a man who truly never met a stranger. His outgoing, charismatic nature made people feel instantly at ease, and his generosity of spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. He had a natural gift for conversation, a quick smile, and a sincere interest in others that made him both a trusted friend and a beloved presence in every room. Worth was born to a historic Texas family, with deep roots woven into the fabric of the state. He was a proud descendant of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Sons of the Republic of Texas, and the defenders of the Alamo, heritage that reflected generations of resilience, independence, and love for Texas. He was raised in Freer, Texas, and in the nearby Berclair area on family land, where he worked alongside his father and brothers farming and ranching. It was there that he learned the values of hard work, responsibility, and developed his lifelong love of hunting and the outdoors. He later attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville, earning a degree in Business in the early 1960s and proudly served six years in The Army National Guard. After graduation, Worth moved to Houston, Texas, where he began his career with Xerox Corporation. His talent, leadership, and drive quickly set him apart, leading to his promotion as Branch Manager of Downtown Houston office. In the late 1970s, he was honored as Xerox’s “Branch Manager of the Year,” a testament to both his professional excellence and his ability to lead and inspire others. After 15 successful years with Xerox, Worth transitioned into commercial real estate in the early 80’s, joining the Howard Horne Corporation, which later became part of Cushman & Wakefield. As a commercial real estate broker, he specialized in Class A office buildings across Houston, Texas, building strong relationships and earning the trust of clients throughout the market. He built a respected career in the industry before retiring in 2001. In retirement, Worth and his beloved wife, Anne, made their home in Bentwater in Montgomery, Texas. There, they enjoyed an active life filled with dear friendships, travel, golf, and countless social gatherings. Together, they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage, celebrating their anniversary this past December, a milestone that reflected a deep and enduring partnership. Worth was a true outdoorsman at heart, and his lifelong passion was hunting and fishing, especially the kind rooted in South Texas tradition. From early days on the ranch to later years spent along the coast, he found his greatest joy in the quiet of a deer stand, the early morning stillness before a hunt, and the thrill of saltwater fishing. He spent countless hours hunting alongside his brother Dick, his son, his daughter, cousins, his grandchildren and his friends, creating memories and traditions that will carry on for generations. He also cherished his time with Anne’s brother, who not only shared in many of those outdoor adventures but also played a special role in Worth’s life by introducing him to Anne in 1968. In later years, Worth also developed a love for golf, enjoying the game and the camaraderie it brought, but it was the outdoors, hunting and fishing, that always held his heart. Above all, Worth was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

He is survived by his loving wife, Anne Litchfield Davis; his son, Thomas Worth Davis III and his wife, Kimberly Toland Davis; his daughter, Meredith Davis Clem; and his four cherished grandchildren, Katherine Lilley Davis, Jordan Lewis Andrus, Thomas Worth Davis IV, and Matthew Ross Clem. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard M. Davis and his wife Millie, and Jeff Davis. Worth’s life was defined not just by his accomplishments, but by the way he treated people, with kindness, respect, and a genuine interest that made everyone feel valued. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the family he adored, and the memories that will be treasured forever. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 29th, at 4:00 PM, where he will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Goliad, Texas.
