Shelton Joseph Green Sr.

Shelton Joseph Green, Sr., 85, of Willis, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the night of February 11, 2026, in Willis, Texas, due to natural causes. A devout man of God, Shelton faithfully read his Bible each day and devoted his life to his Christian walk. Over the years, he worshipped with the Fifth Ward Church of Christ in Houston, Texas; the Teague Church of Christ in Teague, Texas; the Opelousas Church of Christ in Opelousas, Louisiana; the Kemp Church of Christ in Kemp, Texas; the Beacon Church of Christ in Gun Barrel City, Texas; and the Willis Church of Christ in Willis, Texas. His faith anchored his life and guided his family.

Throughout his lifetime, Shelton held a wide variety of occupations and was never afraid of hard work. He drove an 18-wheeler cross-country, worked for a railroad company, operated his own lawn mower repair shop and antique barn, and was employed by the cities of Teague, Texas and Lafayette, Louisiana. For a time, he also served as a reserve deputy in Freestone County, Texas. Shelton was resourceful, independent, and proud of providing for his family in many different ways. He was an avid lover of nature and the outdoors. Fishing, camping in the RV, and barbecuing were among his favorite pastimes. Yet above all his hobbies and interests, his greatest joy and first love was his family. Shelton was the fourth child and third son born to Gabriel and Bertha Green on September 10, 1940, in Jeanerette, Louisiana. Even as a young boy, his drive for excellence was evident — once receiving a spanking from his elementary schoolteacher after missing the “A” honor roll by earning a single “B.” In 1963, Shelton married his beautiful and loving wife, Barbara Joann Jackson, in Houston, Texas. Together they built a life rooted in faith and family and were blessed with five children: Shelton Green, Jr. of Austin, Texas; Jeffery Berlin Green of Berlin, Germany; Stacey Dawn Green of Dallas, Texas; Simeon Joseph Green of Houston, Texas; and Ireland Green Alfred of Willis, Texas, three grand children…Yancey Alfred of Willis, Texas, Yanae Alfred of Willis, Texas and Finnegan Green of Berlin, Germany. Shelton was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara, who passed away on November 14, 2020, and by his youngest son, Simeon Joseph Green, who passed away on April 1, 2025. Shelton will be laid to rest at Willis Cemetery in Willis, Texas, beside his wife and son. A graveside service to honor Shelton’s life will be held on March 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Willis Cemetery in Willis, Texas. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather for lunch at one of Shelton and Barbara’s favorite restaurants, Golden Corral.
