Ronald Ross Settlemire

Ronald Ross Settlemire, affectionately known to all as Ronnie, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, July 8, 2026, just shy of his 89th birthday. Born in Wasco, California to Gertrude (Uecker) and Floyd Settlemire, Ronnie grew up with a strong work ethic, a deep love for family, and a spirit of service that shaped the rest of his life. In July 1956, he proudly joined the U.S. Marine Corps as a Tank Mechanic. During his service, he earned two Good Conduct Medals and was honorably discharged from active duty on July 24, 1959. He continued his commitment to his country in the Marine Corps Reserves, stationed in Barstow, California, until completing his service on July 23, 1962, leaving with the rank of Lance Corporal. On July 20, 1958, Ronnie married Karleen Osborn, and together they built a loving family with three children: Ronnie Ross (“Pete”), born August 19, 1958; Brian Wayne, born May 1, 1960; and Rochelle (“Shelly”) Lynn, born April 7, 1961.

Throughout his life, Ronnie worked in several industries, each reflecting his hands-on skill and determination. He served as a lineman for the Southern Pacific Railroad, worked as an Oilfield Logging Engineer in the Kern County oilfields, and later embraced his greatest passion—fishing—as an enthusiastic amateur fisherman during his retirement in the early 2000s. In late 2014, Ronnie relocated to Montgomery, Texas with his son Brian and daughter-in-law, where he spent the last 12 years of his life. There, he made many new friends and found loving companionship. It was clear to everyone who knew him that Ronnie was happiest with a firearm or fishing pole in his hand—or Dottie in his arms. Ronnie is survived by his son Brian Settlemire and wife Christine; his daughter Rochelle (Shelly) Adams; his sister Rachelle; his fiancée Dorothy (Dottie) Bruce; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Karleen; his son Ronnie (Pete); and his brother Kenneth. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Willis, followed by a Military Honors ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Immediately afterward, a celebration of Ronnie’s life will take place at Epiphany Lounge, located at 400 Bryant Road in Conroe.
