In memoriam
Richard William Huye Sr.
Obituary
Richard William Huye, Sr. (1939-2026) was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late William Voelker Huye and Helen Horton Huye. As an only child, he spent his childhood in Metairie, Louisiana. Some of his fondest memories were of duck hunting with his dad, playing baseball, (he pitched a no hitter when he was 12), summer trips to several camps on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain with family and cousins and later with his wife and children. We can’t forget his love for his fishing camp on Toledo Bend Lake and the many trips we made there. Richard built a wood boat in woodworking class when he was a junior in high school (1956) and fished with that boat until 1973. There was always a boat or two in the yard. He attended East Jefferson High School and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, graduating with a Master of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering. He was a member of Pi Epsilon Tau – national honorary fraternity and Tau Beta Pi, honorary engineering fraternity at LSU. Richard’s 36-year engineering career started with Mobil Oil in Morgan City, La., and continued with jobs in New Orleans (twice), Denver, Lafayette, Houston (twice) and New York, with several other companies-Standard Oil, Superior Oil, British Petroleum, and Castex. He retired in 2000. Since retirement, he has enjoyed life on Lake Conroe, boating and fishing with family and friends. How do you talk about a man who was so loved and admired by all that knew him? He lived his life as God would want all of us to live. Richard was a loving, caring, and giving man.
He loved his Church and Catholic faith, his family, and friends. He believed strongly in education, set up funds so that his children, grandchildren, grandnieces, and nephews could educate themselves in whatever field they chose. Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Claudia Palermo Huye, his children, Richard William Huye Jr. (Stephanie), Mary Huye Summers, and Steven Joseph Huye. Grandchildren; William (Allie), Cassie (Ben), Darby (Jordan), Drew, Josh, Anna, and Lauren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by stepbrother Jules Senentz (Diana) and Robert Rizzo and preceded in death by his parents and stepsister Cinda Rizzo. He will be greatly missed by all. A visitation will be held at 9:45 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on April 13 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 8227 CR205 Plantersville, Tx. Burial and reception will follow at St. Mary’s. Donations can be made in Richard’s memory to St. Vincent de Paul food bank, St. Mary Catholic Church, P.O. Box 388, Plantersville, Tx. 77363.
