Obituary
Lucy Lowella McFadden passed peacefully from this life on March 29, 2026. She was born on November 19, 1932, in Harrisville, Pennsylvania, to Lindsay Russell and Bertha Viola Cooke, and was the youngest of four children. Lucy attended a small, one-room country schoolhouse for grades one through eight before going on to Harrisville High School, where she graduated in 1950. During her childhood, a boy named Richard (Dave) McFadden claimed he loved her from the moment he saw her in grade school. At the time, Lucy did not share his affection and avoided him whenever possible—until he returned home on military leave. Seeing him then, a handsome young man in uniform, changed everything. Lucy and Dave were married on July 9, 1953, and shared 61½ years of devoted marriage until Dave passed away from cancer on March 15, 2015. Together, they were blessed with two children, David W. McFadden and Vicki V. Short. Lucy and Dave centered their lives on their faith in God and raised their children with those same values. Lucy had a deep love for leading Bible studies and was an accomplished singer and soloist.
She enjoyed playing games, doing counted cross-stitch, and traveling with friends in their RV. Above all, Lucy cherished her family. Her greatest joy was found in time spent surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, David Eugene (Richard) McFadden; her parents, Lindsay and Bertha Cooke; her sisters, Fern Buchanan and Lydia Reeder; and her brother, Lloyd R. Cooke. She was also preceded in death by three granddaughters, Rebekah Jo McFadden, Amber Short, and Stacy Short; one great-grandson, Max Coleman; and one great-great-grandson, Ranger Wayne Wimberley.
She is survived by her son, David McFadden, and his wife, Donna, and their children: Josh McFadden and his wife, Tiffany; Jeff McFadden and his wife, Laura; and Jill Janes and her husband, Jeremy. She is also survived by her daughter, Vicki Short, and her husband, Kim, and their daughter, Lilly. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Esmee Wimberley and her husband, Cayden; Emma McFadden; Enoch McFadden; Echo McFadden; Joshua Beaux Coleman; Jaxon Coleman; Landon Janes; Ella Grace Janes; and Kelley Janes. Lucy will be laid to rest at a graveside service at Sam Houston Memorial Park in Willis, Texas, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with her son, Dr. David W. McFadden, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Lucy’s favorite ministries: Gospel Lakes Ranch P.O. Box 67 New Waverly, TX 77358 GospelLakes.org
