Hortensia Godoy Landaverde

Hortensia Godoy de Landaverde, hija de Gabina Ramírez de Godoy y Porfirio Godoy, nació el 2 de diciembre de 1953 en Ciudad Valles, San Luis Potosí, México. Falleció en su hogar, en Houston, Texas, el 10 de junio de 2026, a causa de un cáncer agresivo de origen indefinido que atacó su cuerpo. Hortensia fue esposa de Enrique Landaverde durante 35 años y madre de cuatro hijos: tres varones y una hija. También fue madrastra de un hijo y abuelita de cinco nietos y tres nietas, a quienes amó profundamente. Dos años después de casarse, emigró al norte y, junto con su esposo, crió a sus hijos en el pequeño pueblo de New Waverly, en el estado de Texas, donde apoyaba a la familia cocinando y vendiendo comida desde su auto y por pedido. Tras doce años lejos de su patria, regresó a su amado Valles en 1990, pocos meses después del nacimiento de su única hija, Yuri, motivada por asuntos de salud. Hortensia enfrentó una enfermedad muy debilitante que retaba constantemente su desempeño como madre. Sin embargo, su fe, su fuerza interior y el apoyo indispensable de su madre, sus hermanas y hermanos le permitieron seguir adelante y servir de ejemplo de perseverancia para sus hijos. En 1995, Hortensia emigró nuevamente al norte para permanecer cerca de sus cuatro hijos. Vivió en varias ciudades y pueblos, pero finalmente hizo de Houston, Texas, la ciudad que llamó hogar, un lugar con el que soñó muchas veces. Disfrutó profundamente de las fiestas tradicionales mexicanas, en especial del 1 y 2 de noviembre, cuando preparaba los platillos favoritos de la familia y los colocaba en un altar adornado con flores y velas, honrando así a sus seres queridos. Hortensia Godoy de Landaverde fue una mujer de admirable fuerza mental, ejemplo de amor, resiliencia y fe para su familia. Sus hijos la recuerdan como su gran orgullo y dan gracias a Dios y a la vida por el privilegio de llevar su sangre y seguir su ejemplo. Con la esperanza puesta en el reencuentro eterno, se despiden de su madrecita amada con un “hasta pronto”. Le sobreviven sus cuatro hermanas: Anita Godoy de Bárcenas, Leticia Godoy, María del Rosario Godoy y Olga Lilia Godoy; y sus cinco hermanos: José Luis Godoy, Miguel Ángel Godoy, Fausto Godoy, Porfirio Godoy y Ricardo Godoy. También la sobreviven sus cuatro hijos y su hijastro: su primogénito, Enrique Landaverde Godoy, y su esposa, Maritza Rodríguez de Landaverde; su hijo y acompañante de hogar, Omar Abel Landaverde Godoy; su hijo Gabriel Landaverde Godoy y su esposa, Britany Blue de Landaverde; su única hija, Yuri, junto a su esposo, Michael Ríos; así como su hijastro, Isidro Landaverde González, y su esposa, Dorthy Grey de Landaverde Hortensia Godoy de Landaverde, daughter of Gabina Ramírez de Godoy and Porfirio Godoy, was born on December 2, 1953, in Ciudad Valles, San Luis Potosí, Mexico. She passed away peacefully at her home in Houston, Texas, on June 10, 2026, after battling an aggressive cancer of undetermined origin. Hortensia was the devoted wife of Enrique Landaverde for 35 years, and the loving mother of four children — three sons and one daughter. She was also a stepmother to one son and a grandmother to five grandsons and four granddaughters, all of whom she cherished deeply. Two years after her marriage, she emigrated north and, alongside her husband, raised her children in the small town of New Waverly, Texas, where she supported the family by cooking and selling food from her car and by special order. After twelve years away from her homeland, she returned to her beloved Ciudad Valles in 1990, just months after the birth of her only daughter, Yuri, due to health reasons. Hortensia faced a debilitating illness that continuously challenged her role as a mother. Yet her unwavering faith, remarkable inner strength, and the invaluable support of her mother, sisters, and brothers carried her through, and she remained a steadfast example of perseverance and love for her children. In 1995, Hortensia emigrated north a second time to be close to her four children. She lived in several cities and towns over the years, but ultimately made Houston, Texas, the city she called home — a place she had dreamed of many times. She deeply enjoyed Mexican traditional celebrations, especially Día de los Muertos on November 1st and 2nd, when she would prepare her family’s favorite dishes and arrange them on a beautifully decorated altar of flowers and candles, honoring those who came before her. Hortensia Godoy de Landaverde was a woman of extraordinary mental strength, a symbol of love, resilience, and faith for all who knew her. Her children remember her often and are very proud and grateful to life itself for the privilege of sharing the same blood and following her example. With hope held for an eternal reunion, they say goodbye to their beloved mother — until we meet again.

She is survived by her four sisters: Anita Godoy de Bárcenas, Leticia Godoy, María del Rosario Godoy, and Olga Lilia Godoy; and her five brothers: José Luis Godoy, Miguel Ángel Godoy, Fausto Godoy, Porfirio Godoy, and Ricardo Godoy. She is also survived by her four children and one stepson: her firstborn, Enrique Landaverde Godoy, and his wife, Maritza Rodríguez de Landaverde; her son and home companion, Omar Abel Landaverde Godoy; her son Gabriel Landaverde Godoy and his wife, Britany Blue de Landaverde; her only daughter, Yuri, and her husband, Michael Ríos; and her stepson, Isidro Landaverde González, and his wife, Dorthy Grey de Landaverde.
