On March 2, 2026, David Joe Rodriguez, 74, was peacefully called home after a short illness. David found friends wherever he went; no one was a stranger to him. Curious by nature, he had a gift for striking up conversations with anyone he met on his travels or while living in Florida, Kansas, and Texas with his family. Spreading cheer with his signature personality, he was a unique character to all who knew him, often turning chance encounters into memorable ones.
Throughout his life, David wore many hats. A devoted alumnus of Texas Christian University, he was rarely seen on game day without sporting purple and white and enthusiastically cheering on the team. (Go Frogs!) He proudly served his country as a U.S. Air Force and National Guard veteran. His professional journey included careers as an accountant, a nurse, and a teacher, among other things. However, those who knew him best will remember him for his strong sense of faith, his unique sense of humor, and his lifelong love of music. Although he enjoyed trying his hand at just about every instrument, the saxophone held a special place in his heart. In his later years, one of his greatest joys was performing concerts for residents at local retirement communities. Accompanied on the stage by his beloved dog, Dolly, to the delight of audiences, David found immense happiness in sharing music and laughter with others. David's humor and creative spirit live on through his children and will continue to inspire his grandchildren for generations to come. David is survived by three children, two stepchildren, and many grandchildren. David was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, and his two beloved wives, Linda and Sharron. It is into their arms that he leaves ours. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Huntsville, Texas.
