Carmen Nydia Wartemann
December 22, 1938
Obituary
Carmen Nydia Wartemann passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, February 20, 2026, surrounded by the comfort of the place she loved most, her husband, and Angel, her faithful dog. Born on December 22, 1938, Carmen carried her Cuban heritage proudly and brought her vibrant spirit with her when she came to America at a young age. She was known for her spunky personality, outgoing nature, and yes — her beloved stubbornness, a reflection of her strength, determination, and fiery charm.
She shared over 54 years of marriage with her devoted husband, Carl Waterman. Their life together was marked by deep love, unwavering loyalty, and true companionship — a bond that remained strong through every season of life. Carmen found joy in life’s simple pleasures: a strong cup of coffee, good chocolate, meaningful conversation, and a home filled with guests. She was a gracious and generous host, always happiest when welcoming others and sharing whatever she had.
Her faith was the foundation of her life. Carmen loved Jesus deeply and found strength and peace in prayer, rarely without her cherished rosaries. Her devotion guided her and was a source of comfort throughout her years. She devoted her time to serving others, most notably through Birthright, where she offered compassion, encouragement, and a listening heart to women facing unexpected pregnancies, helping many mothers find the courage and confidence to welcome their children.
She also served faithfully with her church for many years, assisting those in need with everyday essentials like food and clothing, always offering her support with kindness and grace. Carmen had a playful and endearing sense of humor, especially when it came to babies, who brought her endless delight. She adored everything about them — including their famously cute little baby bottoms — a love so well known that she once cheerfully decorated a guest bathroom with baby-themed décor that never failed to make visitors smile.
Carmen will be remembered for her warmth, humor, faith, strength, and the vibrant energy that made her so unforgettable. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories for all who were blessed to know her. Though her presence will be deeply missed, the love she gave so freely will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her — especially her beloved Carl.
