Obituary
Betsy Lee Mathis Crowe, MA, JD, PhD, EdD, age 88, passed away on April 4, 2026. Betsy Crowe was a blessing to her family and friends. She was married to her beloved husband, John Crowe, for 67 years until his passing in 2022. They met in college as true soulmates and built a life centered on love, family, and enduring commitment. She was the devoted mother of two daughters, Michelle Crowe and Rhonna Crowe Endres, and a cherished mother-in-law to Richard Endres.
She was a loving aunt to Dana Crowe Beck, and a proud and adoring grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a first-class family matriarch, loved and admired by everyone who knew her. Betsy was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Crowe, and her brother, Dr. Robert Lee Mathis. A true intellectual pioneer of her time, Betsy earned multiple advanced degrees and was known for her remarkable mind and dedication to lifelong learning.
She was a retired teacher, professor, mentor, and attorney. Beyond her academic and career achievements, she will be remembered most for her gentle spirit, as a deeply patient, positive, and loving presence who inspired all who knew her - especially her family, who loved her deeply. Her faith was a guiding force in her life. Affectionately known as “BC,” she served as a mentor to Brandon Endres and Lauren Endres Brenton, encouraging them to follow God’s path with conviction for success and purpose, making a difference in their lives and in the lives of others they encounter.
Her special bond with grandchildren also included Richard II (Ricky) Endres and Faith Ellis. BC’s legacy of love, spirituality, compassion, and inspiration will live on through her family and all those whose lives she touched. She always said, “Everything is good!” She found the positive attributes in every situation. What a blessing she was to everyone. May she rest in peace in the arms of our Lord and Savior.
Until we meet again... A Celebration of Life and funeral service followed by a reception and champagne toast will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 20th, at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home on FM 1097 near I-45 in Willis. A visitation with family and friends will precede the service from 9:30–10:30 am. A private family interment will follow.
