American Legion Post 95 Launches Scholarship Ride to Support Trade School Students

Sam Houston Post 95 promotes technical education and community engagement through October fundraising events

Legion Members Unite to Give Back

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Members of Sam Houston American Legion Post 95 are uniting to create new opportunities for local students pursuing careers in technical and trade schools. Roxanne Moss and Briana Tolan joined Good Morning Huntsville to share details about their upcoming October 25 Scholarship Ride and Game Night, an event designed to raise funds for students in Walker County and surrounding areas.

“Our national commander’s theme this year is Better Together, and that really says it all,” Moss said. “The more we come together as a community, the stronger we become. We’re thankful for every chance we get to talk about what we’re doing and how people can help.”

Supporting Trade and Technical Students

Tolan, a longtime Huntsville resident and hairstylist, said the inspiration for the scholarship came during one of the Legion Riders’ weekend rides. “I was thinking, what is our purpose out here? There are plenty of scholarships for traditional college, but not many for technical schools,” she said. “Our blue-collar workers are what make this country go round, and they need help, too.”

The Post 95 Riders are organizing the October 25 ride to raise funds for their first scholarship, which will award $500 to a local student pursuing a trade certification. “We’re starting small, but my heart says multiple scholarships,” Tolan added. “God always provides.”

Community Events and Fundraisers

The Scholarship Ride and Game Night is open to everyone — motorcycles, cars, and even 18-wheelers. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with kickstands up at 10 a.m. Participants will enjoy a scenic ride followed by games, prizes, chili dogs, and Frito pie at the post. Proceeds will directly benefit the new scholarship fund.

Post 95 is also hosting its annual Fall Festival and Haunted Hayride on Saturday, October 11, featuring a bike fun run, motorcycle trunk-or-treat, and family-friendly activities. Earlier this month, the Auxiliary Chili Cookoff drew strong community support, adding to the Legion’s growing calendar of events.

“These events bring people together,” Moss said. “It’s about family, service, and fun — and it helps keep our mission strong.”

Honoring Service and Building the Future

Post 95 also partners with the Sam Houston State University Student Veterans Association, encouraging younger generations of veterans to get involved. “We’re bringing in fresh energy and new ideas,” Moss said. “The Riders have done so much this year — from fundraising for members battling cancer to supporting local causes. They’re the heartbeat of our post.”

The Legion’s commitment extends beyond its membership, reflecting a deep respect for service and community. “Blue-collar workers built America,” Moss said. “And through this scholarship and our outreach, we’re making sure that spirit continues.”
