Meals on Wheels Walker County Faces Funding Cuts, Calls on Community to Help

Reduced federal funds force program to scale back meals and services for seniors across Walker County.

(Huntsville, TX) – Meals on Wheels Walker County announced today that it is facing a reduction in funding that will impact meal delivery, congregate (in-person fellowship, activities, and lunch at the Center) dining, and transportation services for senior adults and homebound residents throughout the community.

The program currently serves more than 200 individuals across Walker County. Each day, dedicated volunteers deliver more than just a meal—they offer a friendly face, a safety check, and a reminder that someone cares. Due to recent federal funding reductions, rolled back to pre-pandemic levels, the organization has begun the difficult process of reducing the number of meals currently served.

“We are committed to continuing our mission of ensuring that no senior goes hungry or unseen,” said Stacey Loll, Chief Executive Officer. “However, with these reduced funds, we will need the community’s help to keep meals on the table for our neighbors.”

Meals on Wheels Walker County stressed that its services play a critical role in the health, safety, and independence of local seniors. For many clients, this program provides the only reliable source of nutrition and the only person they may interact with in a given day. Any reduction in meals or services increases the risk of food insecurity, isolation, and unmet basic needs among some of the county’s most vulnerable residents.

To help offset the funding shortfall, the organization is preparing to launch a new website with an improved online donation system. This will give residents a simple way to contribute and ensure meals continue reaching those who depend on them. Community members are encouraged to step in during this transition period to help fill the gap and prevent local seniors from going without meals.

Community members wishing to support the program can contact Stacey Loll at staceyloll@mowwctx.org or call (936) 295-6151 for more information.
