July 25–26 event will turn donated goods into direct relief for San Angelo families
HUNTSVILLE, Texas — First Baptist Church Huntsville is hosting a community garage sale inside its Family Life Center Gymnasium (1229 Ave J) on Friday, July 25, and Saturday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days. Proceeds from the sale will go directly to support families in San Angelo recovering from recent catastrophic flooding.
The sale is part of an ongoing outreach effort led by FBC Huntsville to provide targeted relief to families in need. Unlike traditional fundraisers that contribute to a general pool, this garage sale is a direct line of support to families the church has personally adopted.
“We wanted to make a direct impact by adopting families in San Angelo to support, versus giving to a general fund that will be dispersed to everyone,” said Rob Hipp, community outreach minister at First Baptist Church. “This approach allows us to build life-lasting relationships and opens the door for continued service down the road.”
Items for sale will include a large selection of clothing, much of it originally gathered for flood victims but not needed at the time due to an oversupply in those areas. Shoppers can take advantage of a “fill-a-bag” option, with a suggested donation of $5 per bag. Other available items will include household goods, small accessories, and more.
The entire event will be hosted indoors in the gymnasium, offering a comfortable, climate-controlled environment for shoppers and volunteers.
Every dollar raised will go directly to assist the adopted families in San Angelo. These families were identified during a recent trip by church volunteers who traveled to Georgetown, San Saba, and San Angelo to deliver flood relief supplies.
In addition to shopping, community members are invited to contribute to the garage sale by donating gently used, useful items. Donations can be dropped off at the Family Life Center loading dock across from the church on Thursday, July 24, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The loading dock is the same location used during the previous donation drive.
Organizers kindly ask that donated items be clean, in good condition, and truly useful to others.
“While we appreciate the generosity, we’re asking folks to donate items that others would actually want to purchase,” Hipp said with a smile. “If it’s not something you’d consider buying yourself, it’s probably not right for the sale. We want to create a meaningful experience for shoppers so we can raise as much as possible to support the families we’ve adopted in San Angelo.”
FBC Huntsville’s mission to serve flood-impacted families doesn’t end with this sale. Volunteers are also preparing to return to San Angelo on August 1 for hands-on recovery work including cleanup, debris removal, and home repair. The funds raised from the garage sale will directly assist those adopted families and help meet their long-term needs.
