Event Overview

Journey Through Bethlehem is a multi-denominational Christmas experience that began in 2003 and has become one of Huntsville’s most beloved holiday traditions. Held on the first Friday and Saturday of December each year, the event brings the story of Jesus Christ’s birth to life by recreating the streets of Bethlehem as authentically as possible.

Guests are invited to walk through a fully immersive outdoor village, meet costumed townspeople, visit live scenes depicting the night of Christ’s birth, and step into the world as it may have looked over 2,000 years ago. The event is designed for all ages and shares the good news of Jesus beyond the walls of any single church, reaching the entire community.

Background

Journey Through Bethlehem was born from a vision during a church sermon in November 2002. Inspired by the “Evening of Old Bethlehem” in Lufkin, event founder Leslie Nevitt Michaelson felt called to bring a similar outreach to Huntsville — a community with more than 70 churches and many residents not connected to a congregation. With support from Reverend Jerome Brimmage and numerous volunteers, the event came to life in 2003 and has continued every year since as a labor of faith, teamwork, and community partnership.
