About Splintercraft Artisan Works & Supply
Splintercraft Artisan Works & Supply is more than a store—it’s a workshop, a local resource, and a bridge to the past.
Founded in Huntsville, Texas, Splintercraft blends traditional arts with modern tools. From hand-picked art supplies to custom demonstrations of early 20th-century printing techniques, we serve artists, students, and creative minds with a taste for quality and heritage.
Housed near the historic downtown square, we’ve revived a working letterpress studio featuring original equipment from the late 1800s and early 1900s. It’s not just a display—it prints.
What We Offer:
- Professional-grade art supplies for printmaking, drawing, painting, and more
- Workshops & demonstrations rooted in hands-on craft and community
- Custom-cut materials & curated tools designed to support working artists and serious hobbyists
- Historical print shop experiences featuring live demonstrations and education
- Partnerships with educators and students from Sam Houston State University and beyond
Who We Serve:
- College art students seeking better materials close to campus
- Practicing artists in need of specialty tools and professional guidance
- Tourists looking for something authentic, functional, and rooted in Texas craft history
- Community members curious about the trades, typography, and print culture
Our Mission
To preserve and promote the integrity of the handmade.
To honor those who built before us.
To equip the next generation of makers.

Planning to open after Tax Day in April, Splintercraft Artisan Works and Supply is set to bring a one-of-a-kind creative space to Huntsville. Located at 1201 University Ave, where The Gallery once stood, Splintercraft will combine an art supply store, historic print shop, and artist guild, fostering both traditional craftsmanship and modern innovation.

Founder Richard Sanchez Pace envisions a space that blends “a little bit of the past, a little bit of the future.” A major feature of the shop is an early 20th-century print shop, housing historic presses from the 1890s. These presses were originally owned by Silas T. Compton of the Mount Enterprise Progress and have been carefully preserved. The print shop will operate as a nonprofit under Compton’s Letterpress Artistic Guild, offering guild memberships, hands-on typesetting workshops, craft tours, and live printing demonstrations.

Beyond historical techniques, Splintercraft will embrace modern artistic tools, including laser engraving and 3D printing, creating opportunities for artists to explore multiple mediums. The art supply retail side will offer materials, workshops, and creative residencies, with student discounts and work-exchange opportunities. The space, spanning between 2,500 and 3,000 square feet, will also serve as an event venue for art shows and community gatherings.
Paul Olle, formerly of The Gallery, will continue his craft as a resident craftsman at Splintercraft, bringing his expertise to the creative community.
